Cosmid DNA Sequencing

The Cosmid DNA Sequencing service provides a complete cosmid sequencing project, managed by Shilo Dickens. The cosmid is provided by you, the customer, to the service and at completion of the project the entire assembled cosmid sequence is returned to you.

Cosmids can be submitted to the facility either as DNA or in a strain.

Cosmid DNA must be submitted at concentrations greater than 150 ng/µl and we require at least 200 µl of DNA.
Cosmid strains can be supplied grown on a plate or in a deep.

The information you need to supply with your cosmid is as follows:

  • the name you wish to call your cosmid project
  • the expected size of the cosmid
  • the name of the cosmid vector and/or host E. coli strain
  • the primers to use for sequencing the cosmid ends
  • whether the cosmid is expected to be AT or GC rich
  • strain growth conditions (antibiotics, temperature, media) as appropriate
Depending on the size and complexity of the cosmid we aim to have the project completed within 4-6 weeks. The results, namely the entire cosmid sequence in FASTA format, will be available for download from our server, using a unique link we will email to you at the completion of the project and will contain all project data including all ABI electropherograms and sequences of oligos ordered to close gaps.

Sample Supplied Cost per Cosmid
Cosmid DNA £1,925
Cosmid in E. coli strain £2,035

All prices are exclusive of VAT.
Please feel free to contact either John Lester or Shilo Dickens to discuss any other queries you may have.

Cosmids and completed request forms can be dropped off in the basket provided in the Biochemistry reception (Sanger Building) or posted to the facility at the following address:
