Background and Current Projects: My PhD projects aimed at understanding the biophysical background of allosteric communication mechanisms in the ATP-driven motor enzyme myosin. We used experimental and in silico modeling techniques to answer the question what kind of principles organize more than a dozen, distantly performed reaction steps into an efficient enzyme cycle in the acto-myosin system?
As a postdoctoral fellow I have been investigating how enzymes adapt to new catalytic tasks during their evolution and how these principles can be applied in the laboratory. To reach this strategic goal we are also developing a high throughput screening platform that relies on microfluidic microdroplets to be able to screen huge enzyme libraries and perform directed enzyme evolution.
