Burial Registers

This transcription of the burial registers of Whichford, Warwickshire, for 1540 to 1850 was made by Eric Beresford, David Franks and Barry Hedges.

It is not always possible to be certain about what is written in the register.  Where there is significant doubt the word or date is followed by a query (?), and sometimes alternative possibilities are given.  An attempt has been made to transcribe exactly what is written in the register (but see later comments about departures from this in the interests of convenience to the user of the transcript).

All entries in the register are given in the transcript, even if they are not complete. Information may be missing because it was not the custom at that time to record it: for example, the age of the person buried is normally not recorded in the early registers. In cases like that, we have left the entry blank. But if (say) an age is omitted at a period when it would normally have been given, we have inserted “ns” (not stated).

Two transcript files are provided. One is an Acrobat pdf file which contains the basic information (you will need the free Acrobat Reader to read this file: You should take care when you download, as Acrobat Reader comes with other downloads that you may not wish to have installed on your computer, such as a Google bar which will modify the way your browser works).

The second file is an Microsoft Office Excel file, which contains substantially more information that the Adobe Acrobat pdf file. If you do not have Excel installed on your computer, you can download a free Excel Viewer

Links to pages on the content of the transcriptions and information about the registers are on the left of this page. You are strongly advised to read the page about the content of the transcriptions.

Please remember that this is a transcription. It may contain errors, and it is up to you to check the original.
