Information for supervisors
1. Email list
Please let Claire Wilson (the Administrator) have your full name and your @cam email address for inclusion on the list of Supervisors for Part IB CDB. This will allow:
- The Management Committee to pass on any relevant information about the course to you directly
- You to be registered on the Part IB Cell and Developmental Biology student CamTools site (see below)
- You to be registered on the Part IB Cell and Developmental Biology supervisors CamTools site (see below)
You will automatically be registered for CamTools unless you specifically indicate otherwise.
2. Practical and lecture handouts
Handouts for lectures and practicals can be obtained in person from the Biffen lecture theatre and the Zoology Elementary lab respectively, at the times when lectures and practicals are running. Handouts can also be downloaded from supervisor CamTools site, upon registration with the Cell and Developmental Biology website Administrator.
For this purpose, each lecturer and practical organiser deposits 40 copies of his/her CDB handouts with Neal Maskell (Department of Zoology), as far in advance of their teaching as possible, to be available for collection in the Elementary Lab by lecturers, supervisors and examiners. In addition, each lecturer and practical organiser submits electronic copies of his/her handouts to the CDB website Administrator, at least a week before the start of each lecture block or practical.
We also suggest that supervisors maintain for themselves copies of the references given by the course lecturers, both for their own benefit and for students who may wish to consult them.
3. Examinations
For information about the structure of the examination and assessment criteria click here.
Copies of other previous examination papers can be accessed at the Cell and Developmental Biology CamTools site (see below).
Note: The title of the course was changed to Cell and Developmental Biology in 2004. The title of the course in previous years was Molecular Cell Biology and this appears in the title of some past examination papers. The content of the course has remained largely unchanged.
4. Solutions to practical exam papers
Solutions to numerical questions from the previous year's practical paper can be obtained by supervisors from the Librarians in the Departments of Biochemistry, Genetics, Plant Sciences or Zoology. These solutions are intended to provide guidance for supervisors and should not be given to students. These solutions can also be obtained from the supervisor CamTools site (see below).
CamTools is a new system which has been developed by the University Centre for Applied Research into Educational Technologies (CARET) which provides the following resources for students:
