Please note that as of 30 September 2011 this scheme is no longer active, and no further funds are available.

Eligibility

Any research staff considered crucial to retain in a research position in biomedical sciences are eligible. It can be used to bridge gaps in funding. For post-doctoral researchers, confirmation will be required that future funding for their post has been obtained, or is being sought.

Please note that VIP funds cannot be used to support undergraduates, PhD students who are writing up, general departmental technicians or for project-related research expenses.

Costs covered

Only salaries and associated on-costs can be sought.

Application

For the 2010 -11 VIP allocation, applications must be received by the following dates:

• 23 July 2010: for requests for funding with a start date between 1 October 2010 and 28 February 2011.
• 30 November 2010: for requests for funding with a start date between 1 March 2011 and 30 September 2011.

Application procedure

Applications should be made by the Head of Department, and should include the following paperwork :

• An application form, signed by the Head of Department (down-loadable from here).
• Curriculum vitae and publications list of the person funding is requested for.
• At least two references, preferably external to the University of Cambridge. Please note that the actual references need to be sent, not just the names of referees - therefore please ensure that you contact your referees in good time.
