Costs of Studying Medicine or Veterinary Medicine at CambridgePlease note that every effort has been to ensure that the course costs given below for courses within the Medicine and Veterinary Medicine Triposes were accurate at the time of publication. The University prospectus gives helpful advice for all students about the costs of studying in Cambridge. In addition to the standard living costs, students of Medicine or Veterinary Medicine should expect to have to meet the following costs (2012-13): Estimated additional course costs, 2012-13
1st year students will be expected to purchase overalls, waterproof trousers and boots for use at animal handling classes held at College of West Anglia in Milton, animal handling classes held at the Vet School and for use in the vacations for EMS placements. Students will be expected to make use of this equipment, (boots, overalls and waterproof trousers), when they join the clinical years, for their clinical EMS placements. Students will also be required to purchase a lab coat and equipment for use in laboratory practical classes.
To order the appropriate clothing from the Department of Veterinary Medicine please read the Protective Clothing document, then complete the Order Form in accordance with the instructions.
In 4th and 5th year, appropriate protective clothing will be provided by the Department for use by students during practical/rotation work at the Veterinary School during term time. Additional protective clothing for use during vacations whilst on EMS placements must be provided by students (see preclinical requirements) and kept specifically for use during the vacations. 4th year students are expected to purchase the equipment items below from the Department’s Stores Office for use during practical/rotation work during term time and for use during EMS in the vacations.
In addition to the list above, students will be required to purchase white theatre shoes and protective clothing to be worn in theatre, prior to starting their 6th year rotations:
Insurance cover with the British Veterinary Association is provided for 4th, 5th and 6th year students, and minimal subsistence grants are payable.
