Electron Microscopes

FEI Philips CM100 TEM

Bright field TEM 20 - 100 Kev, with low dose capability, Deben AMT digital camera and EDAX Genesis XM4 EDX system with 30 mm2 SiLi thin window detector and continuum normalisation, peak to local background and quantitative x ray mapping facilities including phase cluster analysis. The camera and EDAX units will be available after installation in December. This instrument is optimised for high contrast analysis of negative stained samples, thin epoxy resin sections and immuno-gold labelled preparations.

Access charges: Bookings are by the hour starting on the hour. Bookings are charged in full if cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.

Hourly rates are: £37/hour £10/hour additionally for EDX and £3.50 for each image recorded (currently cut film).

FEI Philips XL30 FEGSEM

Scanning electron microscope 0.5 - 30 Kev with Oxford Instruments INCA EDX system running a 30 mm2 SiLi thin window pentafet EDX detector. It has SE and BSE detectors and a Quorum/Emitech PP7480 cryo-transfer system.

Hourly rates are: £37/hour with an additional £30/hour for the cryo-transfer stage due to assembly time the minimal booking period for this is 4 hours.
