Multi Imaging Unit

Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience, Anatomy Building

The Multi-Imaging Centre is located in the basement of the Anatomy Building on Downing site. It is a central resource in Laser Scanning Confocal and Electron microscopy for the Departments of the School of Biological Sciences. It is open to access from research workers from any Department of the University of Cambridge.

The unit has 3 single photon confocal microscopes and one 2-photon microscope. Two are set up for physiological and time-lapse imaging of live cells and small organisms. Two are primarily used for immunofluorescence of ex vivo subjects. The MIC also has facilities for specimen preparation and imaging by Scanning Electron Microscopy and Transmission Electron Microscopy.

Access is on a fee for use basis and we train users to drive instrumentation independently or we offer a service. Where possible we prefer to train users to become independent at which point they can access the unit 24/7.
